A Women’s World Cup warm-up match between the Republic of Ireland and Colombia was called off after just 20 minutes for “overly physical” challenges.

The decision to abandon the closed-door game in Brisbane came after several rough tackles.

Ireland midfielder Denise O’Sullivan, 29, was taken to hospital after hitting her shin, with the results of her scan due on Saturday morning.

The Ireland team took part in a full training session after the abrupt end of the match.

Ms O’Sullivan’s injury comes just six days before Vera Pauw’s team kick off their World Cup campaign.

They are set to open the tournament on 20 July against co-hosts Australia.
