The FDA banned sliced bread

Sliced bread was introduced to the world in 1928. It was banned by the FDA in 1943 for using too much plastic. Plastic was important for the war instead of food wrap. The ban only lasted three months because people went wild.

Froot Loops don’t have different flavors

The colorful cereal is deceiving to many people, but each fruit loop color is the same flavor. The blend of fruit flavors gives people the illusion they’re eating different flavors. The same idea can go for into M&Ms.

Don’t call white chocolate “chocolate”

White chocolate doesn’t contain chocolate. It’s a mix of milk products, vanilla, lecithin, cocoa butter, and sugar. All chocolate is made from cocoa beans. These are then made into chocolate nibs.

Beer is a soft drink in some countries

Beer was a soft drink in Russia until 2011. It has an average ABV of 4.5 percent in the United States making it an alcoholic beverage. In Russia, if alcohol had an ABV lower than 10 percent, it was a soft drink.

You can buy cheese on the black market

If you’ve had a cheese board, you know there are a dozen types of cheese just on that board. There was an American food export ban in Russia in 2014 that lead to the cheese black market. Russian busted a smuggling ring trying to get cheese into the hands of people that just had to have it into their country.

The largest purchaser of kale was once Pizza Hut

Have you ever had a kale pizza? Maybe not, but Pizza Hut was once the biggest buyer of kale. They used it in their salad bar for decoration. They didn’t expect people to eat it so it was set around the salad bar for looks.

The same wax is used to coat fruit snacks and cars

Gummy bears are coated in carnauba wax. This is also the same stuff used to shine floors, shoes, and cars. It’s derived from palm tree leaves making it just fine to eat.

A raw pistachio may spontaneously combust

Pistachios have been known to randomly catch on fire. It’s all due to the chemical reactions within a ripening pistachio. Don’t freak out that a pistachio may blow up in your home. It only happens in large quantities during transportation.

25 percent of the world’s hazelnuts are put to use in Nutella

There was Nutella shortage in 2014. This led to lots of unhappy people. The Nutella shortage was all because the company uses 25 percent of the world’s hazelnut crop. Each jar of the spread contains about 50 hazelnuts.
