A US national has crossed the border from South Korea into North Korea, the UN Command in the region has said.
The body, which aims to ensure security on the Korean Peninsula, tweeted on Tuesday that the American citizen was on a tour to the Joint Security Area, the border village in the demilitarised zone separating
the two Koreas.
He then crossed the border into the North without authorisation, it said.
“A U.S. National on a JSA orientation tour crossed, without authorization, the Military Demarcation Line into the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK),” the UN Command announced on Twitter.
“We believe he is currently in DPRK custody and are working with our KPA counterparts to resolve this incident,” it added.
