An upturned campervan has stunned police in France after it was found abandoned in a position they say will “go down in history”.
Police in the northwestern region of Brittany posted images of the bizarre scene on Facebook, showing the campervan balancing in a ditch with its back wheels suspended in the air.
In an initial post captioned “feat or miracle”, police said they were hoping to locate the driver “as quickly as possible”.
They said the “spectacular accident” occurred on Saturday afternoon in the commune of Saint-Meloir-des-Ondes.
Describing the driver as either “intrepid or blessed”, police said they “sincerely hoped” they and any passengers were ok as they investigated the cause of the unusual incident.
Police later revealed the driver had been found safe and well, as they shared more pictures of the incredible scene.
They stated that “with all due respect to the sceptics,” the picture was not generated by AI or Photoshop.

However, they said the mystery behind how the car ended up in that position remained.
“The driver’s fine, that’s the main thing,” police said on Facebook.
“We’re waiting with bated breath to find out the reasons behind this accident, which will go down in history!”
