Alba, who co-founded the clean beauty brand in 2011, will remain on The Honest Company’s board of directors.

“When I created The Honest Company, I set out to change the consumer product industry and I can proudly say, we did just that,” said the actress and entrepreneur.

“Honest has been a true labour of love for me – one that showed me what’s possible when you infuse purpose into business. While there never would have been an easy time to make this decision, I know we have a leadership team in place to advance my founding vision and protect Honest’s reputation as an industry changemaker.”

The Honest Company went public in 2021 with an initial valuation between $1.4 billion and $1.7 billion. Two years later, consumer goods veteran Carla Vernón was hired as the Los Angeles-based company’s new CEO, in 2023, to accelerate growth.

“As we reimagined the future of the business, we benefited greatly by having insights from our founder Jessica Alba,” added Vernón, in talking about Alba’s exit.

“A true visionary, Jessica founded Honest with a desire to bring a higher standard for clean ingredients and sustainable design to baby and personal care products.”

In its most recent trading update in early March, The Honest Company said revenue increased 10% to $90 million, driven by growth in the digital channel, volume growth and the benefit of price increases.
