Personal care and beauty brand The Body Shop plans to expand its Braille facilities at its ‘Activist Stores’ in key urban locations to increase accessibility and inclusivity in its retail network by catering to differently abled individuals.
“This innovative move, the first-of-its-kind by The Body Shop, will be a part of a phased approach across its stores countrywide, representing a significant milestone in the brand’s ongoing efforts toward inclusivity and accessibility in India,” said The Body Shop’s chief brand officer for South Asia Harmeet Singh, India Retailing reported.
The business has already introduced Braille facilities to five of its ‘Activist Stores’ across New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Gurgaon. The business counts around 20 Activist Workshop stores in the country. Braille is a tactile writing system which can be read by running a finger over a series of dots which signify words and can be read by the visually impaired.
The Body Shop was originally established in Brighton, England in 1976 by entrepreneur Anita Roddick. Now retailing in 68 countries, The Body Shop counts approximately 3,000 retail locations. In India, The Body Shop has a total of over 200 brick-and-mortar outlets which it has steadily opened after launching in the country in 2006.
