After the Olympic games, the French football championship? According to information from the French sports daily L’Equipe, the family of Bernard Arnault, the majority shareholder of the world’s leading luxury company, is on the verge of formalizing the acquisition of the Paris FC football club. The organization currently competes in the French Ligue 2 championship, France’s second professional soccer division. According to L’Equipe, the operation would be carried out through a family-owned holding company.

Just days after announcing a partnership with Formula 1 through LVMH, Bernard Arnault is preparing to step into the world of football. In this venture, he would partner with the Red Bull group, owner of clubs in Leipzig, Germany, and Salzburg, Austria, which has entrusted the management of its football operations to former Liverpool FC coach, German-born Jürgen Klopp.

According to L’Equipe’s sources, the current president of Paris FC, Pierre Ferracci, would retain 30% of the capital until 2027. The Arnault family company would take 55% of the shares, becoming the majority shareholder, while Red Bull would acquire 15%.

The days when luxury only had eyes for equestrian sports, golf, or tennis seem distant. If the supposed exclusive negotiations taking place in the coming days succeed, Bernard Arnault would join the ranks of magnates owning a football club. In this regard, for once, he follows behind the founder of Kering, another luxury giant. François Pinault has been the owner of Stade Rennais since 1998.
