“On IndiaSize, I’m trying to get the prime minister to inaugurate it, it should be launched soon,” said Union textiles minister Giriraj Singh at the VisioNxt launch event, the Press Trust of India reported. Most clothing brands in India currently use measurements from UK or US sizing charts for their sizes but, due to general differences in body types in India such as height and shape, Indian customers often run into fitting issues with garments. By introducing a standard, India-specific sizing system, the Textile Ministry aims to increase customer trust and satisfaction.

Singh took part in VisioNxt which is an initiative which mixes artificial intelligence with emotional intelligence to create forecasts for fashion trends, ET Bureau reported. The portal’s aim is to facilitate the mapping of location specific trends which reflect India’s cultural diversity.

“In line with prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision, this VisioNxt portal has been launched. Earlier America and Europe used to do fashion design forecasting, but under prime minister Narendra Modi’s leadership fir the first time the Textiles Ministry in collaboration with NIFT… have launched this historic initiative.”
