Tata’s Trent eyes international expansion

Must read

Tata Group’s retail business Trent is eyeing international expansion to reach Indians overseas, starting with Dubai. Trent’s Indian operations are now profitable and its fashion brand Zudio has passed the Rs 7,000 revenue mark in India.

Trent is considering the possibility of partnering with a global business for its international expansion but has not fixed anything yet, anonymous sources close to the development told ET Bureau. As Trent has reported a five year compound annual growth rate of 45% for its revenue, the business is avoiding the de-growth many businesses are facing amid a slight slowdown in the apparel industry.

Trent is also continuing to focus on expanding its retail chains in the Indian offline market. Clothing retailer Westside launched 12 stores in the fourth quarter of the 2024 financial year and Zudio launched 86 new stores. Both retail concepts focus on their own brands, which only retail on Tata platforms Tata Neu and Tata Cliq in the e-commerce market.

“Westside and Zudio are like two siblings playing in the fashion space,” Trent’s CEO P Venkatesalu told the Economic Times. “They vary on product, design, fabric, etc, but are still relevant at different price points. Moreover, the learnings from Westside helped build a strong Zudio model and the backend integration of the two brands is helping both businesses deliver synergistic growth.”
