Luxury brand Shivan & Narresh debuted its new men’s and women’s couture line ‘Couture Series IV’ with a runway show at New Delhi’s futuristic banquet hall The Upper HSE by Tivoli. The 45 look collection was inspired by the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint.
Models walked the runway in richly textured garments which translated Hilma af Klint’s abstract paintings into conceptual evening wear, shimmering with metallic and glass beads and pearls. The brand’s Couture Series IV created fluid structures using handcrafted knits of silk and lurex yarns. While some garments featured vibrant hues of magenta and yellow or rich reds, others were rendered in steely greys and glittering whites or midnight black.
“Couture means an ultimate expression of artistry and craft for both of us, with each series putting forth a canvas to paint our minds,” said the brand’s head designer Shivan Bhatiya and creative director Narresh Kukreja in a press release. “Deep diving into the canvases of Hilma af Klint has been a joyous experience for us since the time of discovering her works in the summer of 2023 at the Tate Modern, London. The series has been a fantastical journey involving a smoothly woven spiritual experience of color, mystical motifs, abundance and luxurious textures to bring forth this tactile language of contemporary couture.”
Cut out segments of fabric and asymmetric silhouettes made for sculptural and bold looks for both men and women. The collection also featured a range of sarees for a more traditional flavour, juxtaposing sheer textiles with intricate yet abstract embellishments.
