Sabyasachi collaborates with Nilaya, launches first art exhibition

Luxury fashion brand Sabyasachi has collaborated with wall-coverings and interiors business Nilaya to transform its space at Peninsula Point in Mumbai’s Lower Parel. The collaboration also saw the Sabyasachi Art Foundation hold its first art exhibition in the space. 

“The Sabyasachi Art Foundation presents its inaugural show featuring the progressive work of Atish Mukherjee,” announced the brand on Facebook. The exhibition features large, emotive paintings of Mukherjee’s signature exaggerated figures, set against dim lighting and a deep red backdrop. In the promotional video for the exhibition, Atish Mukherjee wanders the gallery and observes his work. 

Sabyasachi also designed the interiors for Nilaya’s location, rendered in the brand’s signature opulent style and stacking antiques with a maximalist aesthetic. The space was designed by Rooshad Shroff and the overall effect is a bled of fashion, art, and interiors. 

Nilaya was founded by Asian Paints in 2014 as a luxury wall-coverings brand which creates curated designs from Indian and international artists, according to its website. The business retails globally and its ‘Nilaya Anthology’ line was created in partnership with Milan based design gallery Nilufar to offer a selection of home decor including rugs, lighting, and furniture among others. 

Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s eponymous brand began as a clothing label and has since expanded into fine jewellery and interiors. The label is increasingly embracing the ‘lifestyle’ monicker and expanding in global markets, most notably the US.
