Roger Federer skips Wimbledon to rock out at Bruce Springsteen gig | UK News

Eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer took a break from the tournament as he joined thousands of fans to watch Bruce Springsteen perform at London’s Hyde Park.

The tennis ace joined the likes of Peter Gabriel, Billy Joel and Jon Bon Jovi in the VIP section during the three-hour set from the veteran US rocker on Thursday night.

It marked Springsteen‘s debut performance at the British Summer Time festival, and comes ahead of a second performance at the park on Saturday night.

Federer is currently in town for Wimbledon and on Tuesday joined The Princess of Wales in the Royal Box to watch Sir Andy Murray storm to victory in the first round.

After the match Sir Andy told the crowd it had been “amazing” to have his former rival come and watch – while he also dubbed him “tennis royalty”.

But Federer‘s trip to the Springsteen gig meant he missed out on Murray’s Centre Court clash that same evening against Stefanos Tsitsipas, which was halted just after 10.30pm and will resume on Friday.

Federer retired from tennis last year and in recent days has been enjoying his free time by attending a string of concerts.

Over the weekend he was a surprise guest on stage at a Coldplay gig in Zurich.

It came after the band invited him up to play percussion on their song Don’t Panic – and was greeted with a rapturous response from the audience.

Federer and his family were also spotted at an Elton John concert in the same city, with the star tweeting afterwards that it had been “iconic” to see the singer perform live.
