Radio 1 presenter Clara Amfo has quit her BBC show after two years presenting Future Sounds.

Ms Amfo, 39, joined Radio 1 in 2015, having previously worked at Kiss FM.

She will be replaced as the presenter of Future Sounds by Jack Saunders, who currently hosts the Chart Show and takes over in April.

The presenter is not leaving the BBC, but will stay on to work on special programmes and a new Sounds show, the broadcaster has announced.

Ms Amfo posted a picture of herself presenting on Instagram, along with a statement about her decision, saying: “The face of a woman trying to keep a secret/make big decisions, whew!

“With immense gratitude and thought given, I have made the choice to say goodbye to Future Sounds on @bbcradio1.

“I’ll save the long paragraphs (cos you know I love ’em!) for my final show but for now, I will say….⁣

“I’m so proud of the work I’ve been able to do on every type [of] show over the years from the 8th floor.⁣ I’m grateful to have had the ears of the listeners who have consistently shown up for me.⁣

“I’m enamoured by everyone I’ve had the privilege of working alongside for each and every broadcast.⁣

‘I’m so honoured by the incredible artists and their hardworking teams who have chosen the show to share their work and intimate thoughts, constantly providing one of the most precious things we all need to keep going in this wild world.

“I’m energised and excited for my next chapter as part of the network and beyond.”

Jack Saunders said the new role means his “dreams have become a reality” and he couldn’t wait “to champion new music,” the BBC said.

Fellow Radio 1 presenter Greg James replied to Amfo’s post, saying: “Love yeeeeeeeeeew.”

Sian Eleri, who currently presents The Chillest Show and The Power Down Playlist, will also host a new programme focused on launching new artists and bands as part of the changes to the Radio 1 schedule.

She said: “I’m excited to build on what is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding parts of the job – finding and championing the best new artists in the world for listeners to enjoy.”
