Put a Spin on Holiday Drinking with Kellogg’s New ‘Eggo Nog’

Must read

Even though it seems summer just ended, retailers are already planning for the next big holiday season and putting out their Christmas decorations. And this does not exclude food manufacturers. In fact, Kellogg’s, the brains behind some of your favorite morning treats, has stepped up to the plate and introduced a new holiday drink that puts a spin on an old favorite.

Kellogg’s has teamed up with a Tennessee distillery to formulate the new ‘Eggo Nog.’ A waffle breakfast is one of the many great joys in life, so why wouldn’t you want to incorporate that great toasted taste while unwinding after a long holiday party? This is exactly what Kellogg’s had in mind when brainstorming new product ideas for 2022.

The idea for this rum-based cocktail came to Joe Beauprez, Marketing Director with Eggo, after hearing from parents about the ‘Me Time’ they were enjoying eating Eggo waffles at night. These adults were turning the morning classic Eggo waffle into a nighttime snack by adding a scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce on top of it. After learning that Eggo waffles were not just for a quick breakfast while running out the door, Kellogg’s decided it needed to find a way to embrace this new way adults were enjoying a childhood favorite food as a snack.

This realization led Beauprez and his team to turn to Galingburg, Tennessee’s Sugarlands Distilling Co. to develop the new ‘Eggo Nog’ with the hopes of enhancing the enjoyment adults were getting out of their Eggo waffles.

Sugarlands Distilling Co. opened its doors in 2014 has produced many different flavors of moonshine, whiskey and other spirits. Their expertise in this field made them a perfect match to bring the iconic Eggo flavor to life in a tasty eggnog drink.

The new holiday drink will be sure to delight all eggnog enthusiasts while providing a modest kick with it’s 40 proof rating. According to Greg Eidam, Sugarlands master distiller, this delightful new drink is a fun and festive version of the distiller’s very popular Appalachian Sippin’ Cream drink.

It includes the classic flavors of churned cream, cinnamon and nutmeg that eggnog lovers have enjoyed for decades with the added hint of toasted Eggo Waffles. He is confident this twist on a holiday classic will have parents more eager than ever for ‘evening me time’ this upcoming holiday season.

If you are feeling extra adventurous, Eggo provides some additional drink recipes that you can make using Eggo Nog. These include an Eggo Nog Martini, Eggo Nog Espresso Martini and Christmas Apple Cocktail. The latter requires 0.5 ounces of Sugarlands’ Apple Pie Moonshine while the two martini drinks can be made with the distiller’s Hazelnut Moonshine.

If you aren’t a big drinker, you could even try using Eggo Nog to spice up some of your favorite holiday baking recipes. The Eggo waffle flavor comes through pretty heavily even with a small amount in a mixed cocktail. It is sure to enhance a holiday dessert that calls for seasonal warming spices like cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg. Give it a try when making some muffins, cake or even your own homemade waffles.

Eggo Nog is available in select retailers nationwide for the duration of this holiday season. If it is as good as Eggo makes it sound, you will be glad that the holiday season will be here before you know it. Make sure to keep an eye out for this new adult treat so that you can block off some ‘me time’ to unwind from all of the holiday craziness that is sure to be here before you know it.
