Netanyahu remains committed to launching the Rafah assault despite Biden’s pleas.

Netanyahu insists on proceeding with a ground invasion of Gaza’s southern city of Rafah, where many displaced Palestinians are seeking shelter, despite objections from US President Joe Biden.

Netanyahu conveyed his determination to eliminate battalions in Rafah, emphasizing the necessity of a ground operation. Following discussions between the two leaders, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan stated the US view that storming Rafah would be a mistake, suggesting alternative means for Israel to achieve its military objectives.

Netanyahu expressed willingness to await US proposals on protecting civilians before initiating the operation. Israeli officials identify Rafah as Hamas’ final major stronghold in Gaza, where over half of the territory’s population has sought refuge. An Israeli airstrike on a significant roundabout later claimed the lives of 30 individuals aiding aid deliveries into Gaza City, according to Hamas media.

The UN raised concerns about Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid entry into Gaza, suggesting they may constitute the war crime of deliberate starvation.
