Footwear business Metro Brands Limited has urged shoppers to get involved in waste reduction and recycle their old shoes through Metro Brands. The business has launched a video campaign which highlights its commitment to sustainability and reshaping industry norms through footwear recycling.
“At Metro Brands, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a responsibility we actively embrace,” said Metro Brands Limited’s chief executive officer Nissan Joseph, the Press Trust of India reported. “Through our eco-friendly processing of old, discarded footwear (ODF) project, we are taking meaningful steps to address environmental challenges while inspiring our customers to join us on this journey. By the end of this FY 24-25, we wish to achieve the goal of ‘1 Shoe Processed for 1 Shoe Sold’. Together, we can transform the way we think about waste and ensure a greener future for generations to come.”
The campaign’s tagline is “Your shoes won’t last forever, but neither will the world we walk on if we don’t care,” and it follows the story of a young boy named Kiaan who recycles his well-loved old shoes with Metro. The 2024 financial year saw Metro Brands sell 95 lakh pairs of footwear and process 47 lakh pairs to recycle and the business is confident that it will achieve its target of recycling as many pairs as it sells this fiscal.
Metro Brands Limited opened its first ‘Metro’ store in Mumbai in 1955 and today its product offering caters to men, women, and children. The business retails footwear under its own brands Metro, Mochi, Walkway, Da Vinchi, and J. Fontini along with third-party brands such as Crocs, Fitflop, and Fila. As of June 30, 2024, the business counts 851 stores in 195 Indian cities.
