Fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform Meesho has created 8.5 lakh seasonal jobs ahead of the festive season. The majority of the new employment opportunities are located in Tier 3 and 4 regions and are for roles in the business’ logistics and seller networks.
“Empowering small and medium-sized businesses, local manufacturers, and logistics providers to scale their business is resulting in meaningful economic opportunities that is driving financial inclusion in these regions,” said Meesho’s CXO of fulfilment and experience Sourabh Pandey, ET Retail reported. “As we approach the festive season, a peak time for our sellers, logistics partners, and customers, our aim is to make a significant impact by ensuring e-commerce is accessible and inclusive for all.”
Meesho has increased its autumn seasonal hiring by 70% compared to last year. The business announced that over 60% of its new seasonal job opportunities are located in Tier 3 and 4 cities which will bring jobs to more rural locations and reflects the growing demand e-commerce in non-metro areas in India.
Meesho has already hired five lakh workers specifically for the festive season, the Economic Times reported. The business’ other 3.5 lakh job opportunities have been created through its partnerships with third-party logistics providers such as Shadowfax, Delhivery, and Ecom Express among others.
