Loewe opens call for entries for seventh edition of its Craft Prize

Loewe has opened the call for entries for the 2024 edition of its Craft Prize. This distinguished competition, dedicated to contemporary art and craftsmanship, will hold its seventh edition in Paris in spring 2024.

Candidates are invited to submit their entries until October 23. A panel of esteemed experts, consisting of artists, essayists, curators, and designers, as well as Craft Prize 2023 finalists Keeryong Choi and Kaori Juzu, will carefully evaluate the submissions.

The jury will select 30 finalists based on various criteria, including originality, precise execution, excellence of material, innovative value and the artist’s unique mark. The chosen works will be showcased in an exhibition held in Paris in spring 2024. The winner of the seventh edition of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize will be announced during the opening of the exhibition. The panel of experts responsible for selecting the winner includes Sheila Loewe, president of the Loewe Foundation, who is assuming the role for the first time, renowned architect Minsuk Cho, and the recipient of the 2023 Craft Prize, Eriko Inazaki. 

The Loewe Foundation Craft Prize received an overwhelming response in its 2023 call for entries, with more than 2,700 proposals pouring in from over 100 countries. Established in 2016, the prize seeks to celebrate and recognise the value of excellence, artistic merit and innovative craftsmanship in the contemporary art world. With the aim of supporting international artists, the winner of the prize will be awarded a sum of €50,000, with two special mentions receiving €10 000 each.

“Craftsmanship will always be modern. It’s about creating objects that have their own formula and speak their own language, creating a dialogue that did not exist before. It’s as much about novelty as it is about tradition,” said Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe, who conceived the competition as a tribute to Loewe’s artisanal heritage.
