Khalifa: Part 1, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, was released in theatres on August 20, 2026. Directed by Vysakh, the film ended with a continuation that explores the story of Aamir Ali’s grandfather, Mambaraykkal Ahmad Ali. Now, the makers have officially launched the sequel as well.
Khalifa 2 – The Legacy
In a recent post shared online by tracker AB George, Khalifa 2 – The Legacy has been announced as the official title of the upcoming sequel. As the movie expands on the story of Mohanlal’s character, Mambaraykkal Ahmad Ali, Prithviraj Sukumaran will reprise his role as Mambaraykkal Aamir Ali.
Moreover, the first instalment featured cameo appearances by Tovino Thomas and Soubin Shahir, who are both expected to return as their respective characters.
Khalifa: Part 1 follows Aamir Ali, a prominent figure who operates a vast gold-trading business spanning the Middle East, London, Nepal, and Kerala. The story explores themes of power, legacy, and family heritage as Aamir inherits a long-standing business empire from his grandfather, Mambarakkal Ahammadali.
The film centers on whether Aamir can live up to his family’s legacy while carrying forward an enterprise shaped by generations of ambition and rivalry.
Apart from Prithviraj, the film also features Neil Nitin Mukesh, Malvika Sharma, Shammi Thilakan, Indrans, Renji Panicker, Mohini, Shivajith, Suresh Oberoi, Sanju Sivaram, and many others in key roles. Directed by Vysakh, the film was co-produced and written by Jinu V. Abraham. Moreover, Jakes Bejoy handled the music.
Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal’s work front
Prithviraj Sukumaran is next set to appear alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan in the thriller Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film is slated to release on September 18, 2026.
Looking ahead, the actor will play the primary antagonist in SS Rajamouli’s directorial Varanasi, co-starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The actor has also confirmed his folklore horror film Odiyan with director Rahul Sadasivan, which will feature Manju Warrier as the co-lead.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal will star in the lead role in the action film Athimanoharam, slated to release on December 24, 2026. While he has a cameo appearance in Rajinikanth’s Jailer, the actor also has seven new projects lined up with multiple directors.
