Kamal Hassan’s KH House of Khaddar held a runway show during New York Fashion Week to launch new collection ‘Sutura’. The men’s and women’s apparel showcase presented handloom Khadi textiles in an experimental and modern way with streetwear inspired elements and tactile fabrics.

“Our journey over four collections has been about merging sustainable fashion with high fashion- two ends of the spectrum that rarely meet in the middle,” said KH House of Khaddar’s creative director Amritha Ram in a press release. “With ‘Sutura,’ we believe we have found a way to bridge this gap. We see fashion as civil yet disobedient, and ‘Sutura’ serves as the essential tendon between the two.”

Models walked the runway in oversized denim sets featuring aesthetic distressing and chunky zips. While many looks were loose fitting, structured bodices and raw-hemmed mini skirts shook up the silhouettes.

The collection highlighted a number of sustainable textiles including tomato leather, khaddar denim pique knit, muslin Khadi, and circular mesh fabric. With a neutral toned colour palette, the collection took inspiration from nature, film, and art.

KH House of Khaddar launched in 2022 as a collaboration between designer Amritha Ram and actor and politician Kamal Haasan with the aim of bringing Indian apparel and artisanship to global audiences. The brand retails from its direct to customer e-commerce store and its corporate headquarters are located in Lincolnwood in Illinois, US, according to its website.
