From April 26 to 30, womenswear brand Jason & Anshu will present a ready-to-wear collection which celebrates craft techniques from across India at The Amethyst Room in Chennai to give the city’s shoppers their first chance to browse the designs.
‘Still Life’ by Jason & Anshu will debut in Chennai this Friday, The Amethyst Room announced in a press release. The collection highlights the Tamil Nadu craft of Lambadi embroidery, rendered on organic cotton as well as Phuliya Khadi from Sasha, Bengal and Mashru from Khamir, Kutch.
“The magic of still life paintings is that they can show us a new way of looking at the ordinary objects around us,” announced the brand in a press release. “These clothes are canvases and compositions of dream-like drawings in thread doodled skilfully by both the machine and hand, smattered with bits of up-cycled silk on handwoven textiles from different parts of India.”
The collection presents a relaxed take on femininity with loose tunics and a-line dresses. Cropped jackets add structure to the looks and sportswear inspired touches such as chunky zip jackets and windbreaker cuts keep the collection modern and youthful.
The Amethyst Room is located on Chamiers Road in Chennai’s Puram neighbourhood. The boutique houses a selection of up and coming Indian labels with a focus responsibly made garments.
