Nitori will open its first store in India inside Runwal’s R City Mall in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar neighbourhood, India Retailing reported. The business is beginning to fit out a space on the third floor of the mall as evidenced by a sign with the ‘Nitori’ logo which reads ‘Coming Soon’.

The business, which is run by Sapporo-based Nitori Holdings Co Ltd, retails products ranging from slippers and home textiles to bedding, carpets, kitchenware, sofas, and dining tables among others. Outside of its native Japan, Nitori debuted in the Philippines this spring, the business announced on Facebook. Nitori also retails in countries including China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

“We are going to accelerate the expansion of our business within the Asian region, which is expected to achieve significant economic growth over the long term and serves as the core of the supply chain that supports the Nitori Group,” said Nitori Holdings Co Ltd’s representative director and chairperson (CEO) Akio Nitori, India Retailing reported. The business plans to amp up its brick-and-mortar store opening schedule and launch approximately 200 stores each year.
