An Ireland fan was allegedly gang raped in Bordeaux during the opening weekend of the Rugby World Cup, according to reports in French media.

Police are looking for three men in connection with the attack.

Afterwards, the woman was found in the street by a group of Welsh supporters, according to media reports, who apparently helped her back to her accommodation.

The alleged attack is said to have taken place in the Saint-Pierre district, close to where she was staying.

Three individuals seized her and led her to rue du Puits Descazaux, according to a police report quoted by Le Parisien.

A spokesperson for Irish police told Sky News they are liaising with local authorities in France.

“Members of An Garda Síochána currently deployed in France for the duration of the Rugby World Cup tournament to assist Irish people visiting France are liaising with local authorities in relation to an alleged incident,” the spokesperson said.

“The investigation is a matter for French police. An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time.”

Around 600,000 rugby supporters from abroad are expected to visit France over the coming weeks during the tournament, according to the country’s police.

Sky News has asked France’s Police Nationale for a statement.
