Designer Harsh Vardhan Jalan has partnered with Birla Cellulose’s premium textiles business Liva Fabrics to launch a couture collection named ‘Prana.’ Designed to champion sustainable fashion, the womenswear line features materials such as repurposed waste fish scales.
“‘Prana’ is a deeply personal concept to me, as it reflects the flow of life that connects every being,” said Harsh Vardhan Jalan about the collection in a press release. “Working with Liva Fabrics allowed me to bring this vision to life through sustainable materials and techniques that honour our cultural heritage while embracing modern aesthetics. This collaboration is a reflection of our shared commitment to innovation, artistry, and the planet.”
The collection contrasts garments which flutter with delicate, fluid layers with dramatic structured pieces. Layered petal or fish scale style cuts of fabric feature ombre tips and fringe adds yet more movement to the collection. Blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics, the collection also uses techniques including crochet, traditional embroidery, and distressed yarn intertwining.
“At Liva, we believe in championing sustainability while delivering fabrics that inspire creativity,” said Sree Charan, vice president of marketing and global head of brands at Aditya Birla Group’s Birla Cellulose. “Collaborating with Harsh Vardhan Jalan has been a journey of innovation and purpose, as this collection embodies the perfect synergy of nature, fashion, and artistry. It’s a testament to how sustainability can fuel unparalleled design excellence.”
The collection’s colour palette of ecru, black, and pink symbolises the cycle of life, death, and renewal, according to the designer. Both the designs and textiles used call for a deeper connection to nature and the collection is tailored to consumers who seek conscious fashion, according to Harsh Vardhan Jalan.
