The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has taken steps to further its strategic alliance with Kashmir’s jewellery industry following its first official visit. The traders’ body plans to offer support to the region in order to boost exports and has secured participation in its upcoming trade show.
The GJEPC and the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry have partnered to promote growth in Kashmir’s jewellery sector, the GJEPC announced on its website. The KCCI has committed to participating in the GJEPC’s upcoming trade show the India International Jewellery Show Premiere 2024, which will take place this August in Mumbai, and both organisations plan to organise outreach programs in the city of Srinagar.
“We recognise the significant potential and interest of Kashmiri jewellery among the Iranian and Central Asian communities,” said GJEPC chairman Vipul Shah in a press release. “Our collaboration with the Kashmiri trade aims to expand the global reach and influence of this exquisite craftsmanship. The unique blend of traditional Kashmiri artistry with modern design elements has captivated buyers from these regions, who highly appreciate the intricate workmanship and elegance in each piece.”
The GJEPC also plans to train a group of aspiring jewellery designers from Kashmir at the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery in New Delhi to kickstart their careers. These steps are designed to help to unlock the potential of the region in global jewellery markets and contribute to the wider development of the region.
The recent meeting between the GJEPC and local industry representatives in Srinagar was organised by the GJEPC’s regional office in New Delhi and attendees included the KCCI’s president Javid Ahmed Tenga among others. The GJEPC committed to promoting Kashmiri sapphires as well as other skills development initiatives and outreach programmes.
