A former Ugandan Olympian has been fatally stabbed in Kenya.
Benjamin Kiplagat, a long-distance runner, was found with stab wounds inside his brother’s car on Sunday morning on the outskirts of Eldoret, a town located 163 miles west of Nairobi, a local official said.
“This was murder, but we do not know the motive for now,” Stephen Okal, police commander from the nearby Moiben area, said.
The three-time Olympian specialised in the 3,000-metre steeplechase and reached the semi-finals of the 2012 London Olympics.
He also represented Uganda at the 2008 and 2016 Games and six World Athletics Championships.
Athletics Kenya official Barnabas Korir paid tribute to the athlete, saying: “We urge the police to speed up investigations and… book his killers.”
