Dior unveils latest Cannage sunglasses

Must read

The house of Dior has unveiled its new Cannage sunglasses, the latest expression of a defining code of the Paris brand, that has become a leit motif of late.

The new designs date back to the founding of the house in 1947, and the birth of the New Look in Christian Dior’s legendary debut runway show that year. Stemming from the graphic pattern of cannage adorned on Napoleon III chairs on which guests sat at Christian Dior’s haute couture salons at 30 Montaigne.

This graphic emblem so seduced the founder, it became a key part of Dior’s couture heritage. With its harmonious mesh, it is an iconic Dior code, punctuating many new collections. In recent seasons, the cannage has become a key visual signifier in collections by both Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones, Dior’s women’s and men’s creative directors respectively.

This season, its refined lines are subtly engraved on the arms of Dior Cannage sunglasses, intertwined with the initials CD, a signature reflecting Monsieur Dior’s legacy.

The new look shades are available in a variety of shapes – rectangular or pilot – with some featuring tinted lenses that promise sophisticated femininity. These shades’ digital campaign images were shot by Sasha Marro, the happening young photographer whose work has appeared in I.D. magazine, T Le Temps and How To Spend It.

Priced at €430, the new Dior Cannage shades began retailing online this week.
