Denmark’s prime minister Mette Frederiksen has been attacked in central Copenhagen.

Ms Frederiksen was in shock after being hit by someone, the Danish news agency Ritzau said, citing the police and the prime minister’s office.

It is unclear whether the PM has been left injured by the attack.

A man has been arrested and in a post on X, Copenhagen Police said the incident took place at Kultorvet, a pedestrian area in the city’s Old Town.

The attack comes two days before Danes head to the polls to vote in the EU elections and Ms Frederiksen has been on the campaign trail in recent weeks.
