Converse brings its vintage designs to India

US-based sneaker and lifestyle brand Converse has expanded its India product offering and launched the ‘Weapon’ range of vintage inspired sneakers online to celebrate its brand history.

Converse is highlighting its connection to basketball culture with its latest footwear line, the brand announced in a press release. The new ‘legacy sneakers’ hark back to Converse’s ‘Choose Your Weapon’ campaign in the 1980s which tapped into the National Basketball Association rivalry between the US sports teams the Celtics and the Lakers.
 
“Back from the archive, the Weapon pays homage to Converse’s illustrious basketball legacy through a lifestyle lens,” announced the brand in a press release. “Crafted with collaboration and community at the core, it recreates the iconic 1986 ‘stitch for stitch’ take on the shoe. Furthermore, the sneakers feature the original design, defined by its ‘Y-Bar’ ankle support and star chevron detailing, highlighting its craftsmanship and authenticity. Available in two colour variants, the Weapon exudes a youthful arrogance in your style while its contemporary leather silhouette offers all-day comfort.”
 
The ‘Weapon’ sneaker range has gone live on Converse’s direct to customer e-commerce store in India and retails at Rs 6,999. Designed to mix fashion with self-expression and functionality, the collection is presented as “a piece of history”, according to Converse. The brand is based in Boston, Massachusetts in the US and was first established in 1908.
