Celine to show Michael Rider’s first collection on July 6 in Paris

Celine has revealed the date of Michael Rider’s first show. The US designer will present his first collection for the Parisian house owned by the LVMH group on July 6 at 2:30 pm CET in Paris, as Celine told FashionNetwork.com. The date is between Paris Fashion Week Men, which will be held from June 24 to 29, and the French capital’s haute couture week, which will open the day after Celine’s show, July 7, and continue until July 11.

Rider succeeded iconic designer Hedi Slimane at Celine four months ago. After four years at Balenciaga working with Nicolas Ghesquière from 2004 to 2008, he has rejoined Celine, where he served as creative director of ready-to-wear from 2008 to 2018, under the supervision of Phoebe Philo. When Philo was replaced by Slimane, Rider moved to New York, taking charge of style at Polo Ralph Lauren.

Rider has therefore gone back to his fashion roots, a return generating much curiosity and high expectations. Especially since his 10-year work with Philo could usher in a recalibration of Celine’s style. 

While Celine has opted to continue to follow Slimane’s strategy of positioning its shows away from the official calendar, it is however breaking with the past by returning to a physical show format, while Slimane instead preferred videos, creating long films in which he paid great attention to image and music. Celine’s last in-person show dates back to February 2023.

Apart from the date and time, the house did not reveal any other details, not even where the show will be held. It also didn’t indicate whether the show will feature either womenswear or menswear, or both, nor what collection it will be. As was customary during Slimane’s reign, Celine continues to cultivate an aura of mystery.
