“Sovereign of the oceans, the sea turtle in bandha silk- travels to Goa’s festive shores in celebration of ceremony, textile and craft,” announced Boito on Facebook. The brand shared an image of designer and brand muse Ritu Nanda wearing its latest designs to promote the upcoming event, which will present its collection titled ‘Odisha in Ceremony.’

The brand also recently held a fashion showcase at Bikaner House in New Delhi to bring Odisha’s textile culture to the metro’s shoppers, the brand announced on Facebook. The pop-up event featured a range of textile driven womenswear along with installations showing how the garments are made and photos of artisans who work with the label.

Boito launched just under two years ago and has also held pop-up events in Bhubaneswar and Mumbai. The label retails from its direct to customer e-commerce store.

“Working conditions are often less than desirable and heavily dependant on good weather,” Boito’s founder Richa Maheshwari told Outlook Traveller about its signature Ikat weaves in a recent interview. “This is particularly true among communities like the Gadabas and Habaspuri weavers, who set up looms in the open. Meanwhile, Kotpad’s Mirgan community use the largest room in their homes to set up their pit looms, but they are often poorly lit and have little ventilation. In addition, power cuts are rampant.”
