As part of the agreement, Birla Cellulose will work with two departments of the Bhilwara Group Companies to develop the fibres, Apparel Resources reported. Advanced materials sector business TACC Limited will be involved in the project and supply graphene derivatives Birla Cellulose to be used in the yarn. Textile producer RSWM Limited will then use the graphene-enhanced viscose fibres to make textiles.

Graphene is a material known for its strength and durability while also being lightweight. By enhancing textiles with graphene, the businesses aim to create fabrics which are long lasting, resilient, and offer heat control properties.

Grasim Industries Limited is a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group which focuses on manufacturing cellulosic fibres, textiles, and yarn, operating globally, according to its website. The business was incorporated in 1947 and also has segments for cement and chemicals. In the 2024 financial year, Grasim Industries reported a consolidated net revenue of Rs 1.3 lakh crore with earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation totalling Rs 20,837 crore.
