Are destination weddings selfish? – Travel-Feed

Must read

Destinations weddings are undoubtedly beautiful. The key purpose is to bring the closest friends and families together so they can enjoy the trip of a lifetime and the wedding of-course. Those wonderful moments, mesmerizing views and relations formed during weddings are cherished and remembered for a lifetime. But, there is another side to it, and the question that arises is, are destination weddings selfish?

We can’t completely agree to the statement as it’s the biggest day for both, the bride and the groom before they step into an entirely new journey together. Technically, they should have the right to choose whether they want a destination wedding, or a traditional one. The biggest challenge for the guests though is to arrive at the wedding destination.

The trend of destination weddings came to existence around a decade ago. Couples enjoy the concept of marrying on exotic beaches, or at remote/foreign locations that may have some historical or ancient values attached to them. Indeed, destination weddings may not be comfortable for some of the guests, but then, they do deliver a once in a lifetime experience.

The guests who are invited to the destination weddings may worry about the cost of airfare and accommodations which usually the biggest matter of concern for them. There can be times when the couple won’t be able to arrange it for all of them. Destination weddings are usually held out of native countries. Travelling out of the country just to attend a wedding may not be pocket-friendly for some of the guests, not everybody can afford it.

Let’s not forget that guests who are traveling for the wedding with their families, their traveling expenses can go too high because there could be multiple family members willing to attend. And then, how can we forget about luggage charges? We can’t deny the financial burden it puts on the guests.

Some of the guests may be too old to travel abroad. They might have issues in boarding long, international flights. The host countries may not even have the medical help, equipment, or medicines available that may be needed in case of any emergencies.

You can find countless discussion boards across the internet where brides and grooms are complaining about their guests not attending weddings. A Destination wedding can turn out to be a selfish decision for some of the families. In the end, the choice of showing up at the venue is complete for the guests.

Some people would suggest that a wedding is supposed to be for the guests, and the honeymoon is for the couple. Different people, different opinions.
