Direct selling beauty and wellness business Amway expects India to become one of its top three international markets in the coming five years. Amway is eyeing more than doubling its customer base in the country from two million at present to five million in five years’ time.
“We have five and a half lakh active distributors on our base right now,” Amway’s India managing director Rajneesh Chopra told the Press Trust of India. “We have more than two million customers. Our goal is that two million moves up to five million over the course of the next five years… We aspire that India becomes one of the top three (markets for Amway globally). We have some more work to do from that standpoint but India is poised to do that.”
The business is bullish on the Indian market and has invested approximately Rs 35 crore to establish new research and development centres in the country, India Retailing reported. Amway aims to develop products which are suited to the specific needs of consumers in different geographies, including Asia.
India is already in Amway’s top 10 markets and its top three markets are China, the US, and South Korea at present. The business sees growth potential in India for both its beauty and its nutrition segments and will harness its new research and development centres to enable it to ascertain and cater to local customer needs, according to Chopra.
