Amazon India is eager to tap into India’s swift growing quick commerce market. The business plans to launch its own quick commerce delivery service this winter which is codenamed ‘Tez.’
Having previously planned to roll out its quick commerce operations in the first quarter of the 2025 calendar year, Amazon India is now hoping to debut the service sooner, ET Retail reported citing sources close to the matter. The US-owned business’ quick commerce operations could be up and running by the end of December this year or the beginning of 2025.
“They [Amazon India] want to launch it sooner than the end of [the] first quarter in India,” an anonymous source close to the development told the Economic Times. “Quick commerce is where all the action is if you are a meaningful consumer internet platform. They are also following the same model as others- setting up dark stores, figuring out the details of stock keeping units and categories, and putting logistics infrastructure in place.”
The quick commerce service’s working title is Tez. Should the launch take place on schedule, it will be Amazon’s first quick commerce service in the world, showing the importance of India’s quick commerce sector globally. The business runs its own delivery network in India but has also held talks with other delivery businesses concerning quick commerce.
