Bangkok is known for its fun and food, especially street food. And there is a vendor who has earned a Michelin Star for the second time in a row. It’s none other than Jay Fai. Raan Jay Fai is a small, seven table joint in Old Bangkok that serves street food. Jay Fai has featured on many TV shows and YouTube channels. The specialty that made us go there was the street food’s simplicity which was retained by her.
She is one of the only two Michelin Stars recipients that sell street food in Thailand. Making it a busy hub by the localities and the tourists traveling from around the world. She is 70 years old cook showing up the cooking skills at its best and is a food Rock star. Many people try to book the tables but failed to do so, as it’s rushed by people. Signing up for the walk-in list is the best way for many, especially for the tourists.
She only serves 7 tables at a time and only two tables are allowed to be reserved. She’s the only one who cooks food and has assistants passing her things and preparing ingredients, but the final dish is prepared by her solely. The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday and the timings are between 2:30 pm to 12 am. While visiting her restaurant you will find that the staff is very friendly making you more comfortable, especially when you are a tourist.
You can visit this street food restaurant in the evening to get the proper time to sit and cherish the delicious items made by her. But it is important to get your name on the customer list that is prepared by the staff and people line up in queues in order to secure the table.
Lots of people walking around the street take her pictures, as she wears goggles to protect her eyes from oil and smoke. The dish that made her famous is crab omelet and it is really amazing in taste.
The inside of the crab omelet is filled with stuffed crabs and deliciousness. Drunken noodles are another dish that is super spicy and amazing but these noodles are not spicy and are idle for your kids as they can easily eat them and enjoy.
If you want to enjoy the lavishing taste of this exotic street food, you need to raise a bit more money because these delicious dishes served here are very expensive.
