Skincare tips for festive season: Get your routine right

Here are some ways that you can get your skin ready for the festive season easily as suggested by Dr Kapoor:

1. Start with cleansing

Cleansing has to be the first step in any skincare routine. Never miss out on cleansing the skin in the morning and at night. Use a good cleanser that removes dirt and pollution debris without drying out your skin. Dr Kapoor says practising cleansing regularly will help keep your skin looking fresh and supple.

2. Exfoliation is key!

Exfoliate the skin twice a week to improve cell turnover and circulation in the skin at the same time. Exfoliating your skin often can help remove the dead skin cells. You can even use a physical exfoliator at home or talk to your dermatologist about microdermabrasion (an invasive procedure that renews skin cells). You can also ask for chemical peels treatments for in depth skin rejuvenation.

3. Massage your face once a day

Getting a light face massage once in a while can help awaken your complexion. It will also help improve blood circulation, providing more oxygen to your skin cells and helping them recover. You can also use face oils rich in hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and E, and other antioxidants. Massage your face using a jade roller in an upward direction, as per the dermatologist.

4. Get a facial

The sweltering weather of the summers and rainy season leave behind a trail of tan and faded skin. It damages the skin and its texture, leaving your skin looking dull. You can choose skin brightening facials that are infused with the goodness of multivitamins. It will help reduce the effects of sun damage, remove blackheads and whiteheads, giving your skin a bright and spotless glow perfect for the festive season.

6. Chose the right moisturiser

Getting a moisturiser is essential for plump skin. It keeps the skin hydrated and keeps the external elements away. Choose a moisturiser with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin c and aloe vera that helps the skin look bright and smooth. Apply the moisturiser after the serum and before applying the sunscreen. Using ultra-light creams will give you a radiant face in no time at all, recommends the expert.

7. Mask it up

Give your skin an instant boost with a mask. No beauty routine is complete if you have not included a nourishing sheet mask every few days. Try using serum infused sheet masks containing vitamin A, charcoal, avocado, vitamin C and niacinamide to revamp your skin and make it glow in just a few minutes. Most of the sheet masks take only about 15 minutes to work.

8. Use ice cubes

Ever heard of using ice for skin? From Katrina Kaif to Alia Bhatt, everyone uses this hack! A favourite among many actresses and influencers alike, this method is a tried and tested method that can work wonders for your skin. Dr Kapoor says if you feel that your skin is looking dull before the big day, ice cubes is the perfect quick fix for tightening your skin instantly. Are you wondering it works? Well, the expert says that cold ice boosts blood circulation and give your skin a natural rosy glow in just a few minutes.

9. Exercise every morning

It goes without saying that exercise can make or break your health. In this case, even your skin! All you need to do is set aside 40 minutes a day every morning for a good workout that includes cardio and strength training. You can also do yoga thrice a week. It will remove the toxins that clogs the pores and brighten the skin with some added glow easily. It is a healthy and simple way to detox your skin and make it look healthy.

10. Eat nutrient-rich foods

Healthy skin depends a lot on what you feed your gut. What you eat will show on your face. As the festive season is almost here, start eating fresh fruits and veggies in your diet. Including omega-3 rich foods such as walnuts, avocados, beetroots, sweet potatoes and salmon. Avoid oils and sodas and switch to healthy drinks like lemon or orange infused water, says Dr Kapoor.

11. Hydrate

Chugging on water every few minutes is all the beauty elixir your body needs. It can take care of a range of issues like pigmentation, acne, dullness, under eye bags, puffiness on the skin. Whether you are going for a pooja or a party, stay hydrated.

12. Give your skin some love

For those fond of wearing makeup, strobe creams, highlighter and liquid illuminators to get the skin glowing, don’t forget to remove the makeup. Last but not the least, avoid stress and tension during the festive season. It can show up on the skin and rob it of its glow. Keep things light and easy and practice meditation regularly, she adds.

Even though these skincare tips for the festive season are recommended by an expert, your skin type could be different and some of these things might not suit you. It is best to consult a dermatologist before using any of these tips.
