A performance of In The Night Garden in Cardiff at the weekend was suspended after reports of a “threatening phone call”.

South Wales Police said they were called to the New Theatre in the Welsh capital on Saturday after reports of a “threatening phone call having been made to the premises”.

The force said its officers conducted a “thorough search of the premises” and “no items of concern were found”.

“A full evacuation of the theatre took place,” the spokesperson added.

Their investigation is ongoing into what they believe to be a “malicious hoax”.

In the Night Garden Live is currently touring the UK and was in Cardiff from 2 to 4 May.

It features characters from the BBC children’s series, including Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy and Makka Pakka.

A spokesperson for New Theatre said it was “alerted by telephone to a potentially serious incident” during the performance of In The Night Garden.

The spokesperson confirmed a decision was taken to suspend the performance.

“Further investigation by the police identified that there was no risk,” they added.

“We apologise to customers who were disappointed and will be processing refunds.

“Given the bank holiday there may be a slight delay before funds are repaid by the banks.”
