“Our India website is now live,” wrote Louis Vuitton’s India country manager Shriya Puri on Linkedin. By opening an e-commerce store specifically for the Indian market, shoppers across the breadth of country will be able to more easily purchase the brand’s products without travelling to a brick-and-mortar store.

The move shows the brand’s increased focus on the Indian market which has an increasingly affluent shopper base. The brand runs e-commerce stores for markets including North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Last year, Louis Vuitton appointed Deepika Padukone as its brand ambassador. As the first Indian celebrity selected to represent the brand, Padukone has introduced the label to her India following while also promoting it on the global stage.

Louis Vuitton has a total of three stores in India in New Delhi’s DLF Emporio, Bengaluru’s UB City, and Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace and Tower. The brand was first established in France in 1854 and is today owned by luxury retail giant LVMH, operating over 460 stores in 60 countries across the globe, India Retailing reported.
