Julian Sands’s cause of death ‘undetermined’ after going missing while hiking | Ents & Arts News

British actor Julian Sands’s final cause of death has been declared undetermined, a month after his body was discovered.

The 65-year-old went missing while hiking in Californian mountains in January.

The coroner’s declaration was made due to the condition of Sands’s body, which was found by hikers in June.

No other factors in his death were found during the coroner’s investigation, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino county police department told the Hollywood Reporter.

This kind of determination is “common when dealing with cases of this type,” the spokesperson added.

The five-month hunt for Sands involved multiple search missions on land and air and about 500 hours of volunteer time.

In an interview to the Radio Times months before his death, Sands spoke of the “dangers” of mountain climbing and said confronting human remains in the mountains could be “chilling”.

Sands was best known for playing opposite Helena Bonham-Carter in A Room With A View, as well as for roles in Arachnophobia, Leaving Las Vegas and Warlock and TV appearances in 24, Smallville and Banshee.
