IIJS Signature’s 17th edition kicked off over the weekend in Goregaon Mumbai to showcase gem and jewellery business from across India to a business to business audience, the GJEPC announced in a press release. The traders’ body took the occasion to announce that the first phase of construction of the India Jewellery Park Mumbai will include its A1, A2, and A3 buildings which will span approximately nine lakh square feet and will be ready for procession by December, 2026.

“On the export front, we remain optimistic about 2025,” said the GJEPC’s chairman Vipul Shah at the trade show’s inauguration, the GJEPC announced in a press release. “With American President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, there is hope for renewed stability in the geopolitical landscape, revitalised trade, and stronger supply chains, driving global demand for gems and jewellery. However, GJEPC is continuously exploring new markets while strengthening its presence in existing ones.”

The GJEPC has also announced that it will host its first jewellery exhibition in Saudi Arabia in Jeddah in September this year. The event will strive to boost bilateral trade between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council and the wider global market.

“India’s gem and jewellery business is now at the centre of the global trade and we in Maharashtra are committed to the growth of this indigenous industry,” said banker, singer, and social worker Amruta Devendra Fadnavis. “Several key steps have already been taken to give a boost to the gem & jewellery business, which can contribute significantly to helping realise Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s dream of $5 trillion economy for India; and Hon. Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis ji’s $1 trillion economy dream for Maharashtra. I am very happy to note that GJEPC has initiated several programs for women empowerment and adopted sustainable environmentally friendly initiatives for the world-class IIJS exhibitions in Mumbai.”

The government’s Department of Commerce director at the Department of Commerce and Industries R Arulanandan stated that last year saw significant progress for India’s gem and jewellery industry. “The Ministry has been working closely with GJEPC to understand concerns of the trade,” said Arulanandan. “Year 2024 was a year of achievement and lot of industry issues resolved paving the way for unprecedented growth of the gem and jewellery sector. IIJS Signature is truly an international show and paves the way for a bright exponential growth.”
