Flipkart sees rural shoppers adopt e-commerce: FlipTrends Report 2023

E-commerce giant Flipkart has an increase in online shopping from rural consumers while fashion, lifestyle goods, and electronics products were the platform’s most popular in 2023, the business announced in its ‘FlipTrends Report 2023’.

“The FlipTrends report 2023 shows consumer behaviour in a country that is possibly the most diverse when it comes to shopper profiles,” said Flipkart’s senior vice president of analytics and data science Ravi Vijaya Raghavan in a press release. “This trend report is based on shopper behaviour throughout this year, unveiling the pulse of purchase and search behaviour. Flipkart has continued to play an important role in providing access and being a ‘trends equaliser’ in many ways. Metros and smaller cities have shared preferences for gadgets and grooming products, while certain styles such as sarees remain a classic choice.”
 
The brand’s report looked at data from over 500 million registered users. Shoppers spent an average of seven hours on Flipkart’s e-commerce store this year and the business acquired over 41 million new customers this year up until November. 

“We’ve witnessed interesting trends in new technology that we launched this year that has led to a more wholesome shopping experience for many,” said Raghavan. “Our insights also show how e-commerce is continuing to grow as a trusted source for categories such as baby care and premium beauty.”
 
Over four million Flipkart users engaged with its Chat-GPT-powered shopping assistance tool ‘Flippi’ in October, the month when the feature was launched. As non-metro customers continued to rise, Flipkart found that the Tier 1, 2, and 3 cities which the fullest shopping carts included Trivandrum, Patna, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Varanasi, Ernakulam, Guwahati and Cuttack, Medinipur, and Bankura.
