Value apparel and lifestyle retailer Citykart plans to open 300 brick-and-mortar stores in the coming three years. The business aims to bolster its presence in North India in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and debut in new cities and regions.
“In the upcoming quarter (Q3 2024), we expect to open around 25 stores, with a total of 40 to 45 new stores by the end of this fiscal year,” Citykart’s director Sudhanshu Agarwal told India Retailing. “We are focusing on the fortification strategy in the current neighbourhood markets we already operate in, while simultaneously expanding into new regions in the North and Northeast Indian states… Once we feel we have established a strong enough presence in North and East India to continue growing, we will consider expanding into South and West India.”
Citykart has earmarked Rs 100 crore for its next round of retail expansion which will also see it enter 15 new cities. The business expects the move to boost its revenue, help it to serve non-metro shoppers, and create employment opportunities for between 700 and 1,000 individuals.
Citykart’s stores cater to families and retail product categories including apparel, footwear, accessories, cosmetics, and toys among others. Along with expanding its retail footprint, the business also plans to widen its product selection and launch new categories which complement fashion.
Citykart opened its first ever store in Lucknow in 2015 and passed the 100-store milestone in 2023. The business now has an offline retail presence in 76 Indian cities spread across nine stores which include West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh among others.
