Indian designer Ajay Kumar launched a bright, nature inspired men’s and women’s ready to wear collection on the runway at Harbin International Fashion Week 2025. Kumar’s ‘Elemental’ collection featured bold, clashing prints, handloom cottons, and experimental silhouettes.
“In every element, there is a story- of the unity, of culture, of nature and of the self,” said Ajay Kumar about his design ethos in a press release. “Elemental is an invitation to wear your truth.”
For his latest collection, Kumar was inspired by the harmony between humanity and nature and translated this into a mixture of dramatic silhouettes and wearable separates. The runway show concluded with walks by ‘Miss Cosmo 2024′ Ketut Permata Juliastrid and ‘Mr Supranational India 2024’ Aman who represented a global approach to Indian beauty.
The collection was crafted in collaboration with local Indian artisans with a focus on ethnical manufacturing from embroidery to tailoring. “Luxury cannot exist without responsibility,” said Kumar. “The earth’s elements sustain us; it’s our duty to honor them through mindful creation.”
Notable motifs in the collection included animal prints, lotus blooms, and roses. With a jewel toned colour palette, Elemental used gold embroidery to catch the light and silk textiles to add fluid movement.
Harbin International Fashion Week 2025 took place in Hongbo West City’s ‘Hongbo Contemporary Art Museum’ in Harbin, China. The event was hosted by the China Textile Industry Federation and featured designers from across the world.
