CII Conference highlights role of international trade agreements in boosting jewellery industry (#1684707)

The Confederation of Indian Industry’s Gems and Jewellery Conference in New Delhi highlighted the role of international trade agreements in boosting India’s jewellery industry. The conference’s theme was ‘Mining and Manufacturing to Markets and Economy’ and it also explored industry perspectives on jewellery hallmarking.

Held on December 6, the CII Gems and Jewellery Conference featured an address from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s executive director Sabyasachi Ray, the GJEPC announced on its website. Ray focused on the role of mining and manufacturing in India’s gem and jewellery industry and highlighted the positive effects on trade agreements on the sector, including the Indo-UAE CEPA, Indo-Australian ECTA, and the Indo-European TEPA.
 
In his address, Ray also highlighted the GJEPC’s work to secure an exemption for jewellery exports from mandatory hallmarking. Thanking the government’s Department of Consumer Affairs secretary Nidhi Khare for her support in finalising new diamond terminology, Ray emphasised the numerous ways the government has recently moved to support the gem and jewellery industry, according to the GJEPC.

This has built trust and credibility among consumers, bringing global recognition and respect to Indian craftsmanship, cultural
heritage and entrepreneurial spirit.”
