They shared the news on social media, with the message: “New album, new music, new era,” and a short video skit showing Fallon receiving a call on his “Stones phone” to summon him to the UK capital.
The interview with the American chat show host will take place in Hackney, east London, and will be live-streamed globally on their YouTube channel.
The Rolling Stones last album of original music was A Bigger Bang in 2005, while their last studio album, Blue & Lonesome, which comprised blues covers, was released back in 2016.
The band first teased their new music online and by placing an advert in the local paper – the Hackney Gazette.
The advert for Hackney Diamonds featured lyrics from the band’s best-known hits, and included a website and a phone number which takes you through to a recorded message.
The greeting from a male voice with a Cockney accent says: “Welcome to Hackney Diamonds, specialists in glass repair. Don’t get angry, get it fixed.”
The phrase “Hackney Diamonds” is old east London slang for shattered glass from windows being broken during a robbery.
