The move is another blow for Kyiv after Donald Trump decided to pause all military aid to Ukraine following a bust-up with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House.

US national security adviser Mike Waltz said Washington had “taken a step back” in its relationship with Ukraine and CIA director John Ratcliffe called the suspension a “pause” and said American intelligence and military aid could begin flowing again once Mr Trump knows Mr Zelenskyy is serious about peace.

“I think on the military front and the intelligence front, the pause I think will go away,” Mr Ratcliffe told Fox Business Network.

“I think we’ll work shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine as we have to push back on the aggression that’s there, but to put
the world in a better place for these peace negotiations to move forward.”

The US has provided Ukraine with significant intelligence since Russia invaded in 2022, including critical information its military needs for targeting Russian forces.
