Swedish home and lifestyle retailer Ikea will officially launch in the North Indian market on March 1 and expand its e-commerce deliveries to the Delhi National Capital Region as well as nine satellite cities comprising Agra, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and Varanasi.
“North India has been a missing piece in our India story,” Ikea India’s CEO and chief sustainability officer Susanne Pulverer told ET Retail. “We are in phase two of our growth in the country and this launch across Delhi NCR and other markets will help us create a strong foundation for our future omni-channel growth in the region.”
Ikea entered the Indian market nearly seven years ago and currently sees more than 30% of its sales in the country come from its e-commerce store, which delivers to select locations. By launching online first in North India, the business aims to swiftly reach large numbers of customers and record data on their shopping behaviour. The business plans to launch offline in the region with a store planned in Gurugram for 2026 followed by an outlet in Noida several years down the line.
“The e-commerce first approach allows us to reach more customers quickly while gathering valuable insights into their needs and preferences,” said Pulverer. “This will help make future stores more locally relevant and efficient.”
