The Indian technical textiles market is set for significant growth following numerous additions to the government’s budget for 2025 including policy changes to strengthen domestic manufacturing, according to a new report by risk management and monitoring services business Rubix Data Sciences.

“Technical textiles are no longer just about durability- they’re about intelligence, adaptability, and sustainability,” said Rubix Data Sciences’ CEO and co-founder Mohan Ramaswamy in a press release. “Budget 2025 has given the sector an added push, and we’re seeing an exciting shift towards sustainable innovation, automation, and smart materials. Whether it’s self-cleaning fabrics, military-grade protective gear, or biodegradable packaging, the landscape is evolving rapidly. Businesses that tap into these advancements now will be ahead of the curve.”

The report highlights the 2025 Union Budget’s increase in Basic Customs Duty on knitted fabrics and tax breaks for textile machinery as major factors which should drive industry growth. India’s technical textiles market was worth $29 billion in the 2024 financial year and Rubix Data Sciences expects it to expand significantly.

High performance textiles including packtech (which has a 44% market share), mobiltech, meditech, and agrotech are expected to grow in particular as these sectors are witnessing rising investment. Advancements in the technical textiles industry including energy-harvesting fabrics, PCM-based adaptive clothing, and smart e-textiles for sports and fitness are also driving sector growth.
