EPCH holds design and trends industry event in Srinagar

The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts held an interactive session in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir to connect with the region’s exporters, discuss trends and export compliance, and boost international trade in the northern region.

The session was titled ‘Design, Trends, Forecast and Export Compliances’ and took place on December 28, 2024, the traders’ body announced on Facebook. The industry event was attended by leading exporters from the region and featured talks by the EPCH’s chairman Neeraj Khanna, former chairmen R K Malhotra and Ravi Passi, associate director for design Amla Shrivastava, and other members. 

“Shri Neeraj Khanna, vice chairman EPCH emphasised on importance of market adaptability to stay competitive in global markets through trainings and collaboration with designers to blend traditional artistry with contemporary trends,” announced the EPCH on Facebook. “Shri Raj Kumar Malhotra, former chairman EPCH shared that compliance in international markets are emerging as key determinants of handicraft export competitiveness and access to expansive export opportunities.”

One of the state’s main exports is pashmina shawls. Attending exporters were encouraged to have their pashmina products tested Advanced Centre for Pashmina Certification Lab in Dehradun to ensure quality and ethnical production. The centre was set up by the EPCH and the Wildlife Institute of India. Fashion trends and the move to minimalism in global trends was also discussed. 

The EPCH took the occasion to share information on its corporate social responsibility initiatives. The organisation plans to continue to run health check-up camps for artisans across the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
